MacCast

Do you want to keep up to date with Mac news? I do, but I usually don't have the time to chase down rumors about Apple and the Mac. So I get my news from the MacCast. It's a weekly podcast which I listen to while I'm walking or exercising, so I don't have to spend extra time trying to track down rumors about new Mac releases or useful Apple software.

Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!

Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me is a hilarious podcast where they make fun of the weekly news. It's a quiz show where the questions are hilarious, and you'll discover things that you would never believe happening. The intervening breaks where regular panelists try to guess the answer to a question are also really funny, especially when they don't know the answer.

It's actually a radio show which is also being provided as a podcast. I don't listen to the show through radio since I prefer podcasts, not to mention that I don't even have a radio, which means you'll probably never hear me on the show as a contestant.

Tips from the Top Floor

If you like photography, then Tips from the Top Floor is a nice podcast to listen to. It has a rather cozy feel to it, in that the podcast is very community-driven, and it often gives out nice tips and background knowledge that budding photographers can appreciate. The semi-regular Tech Guy episodes, which are actually recordings from a separate radio show done with also the host of the Tips from the Top Floor podcast, are also great for learning basic photography techniques and other tidbits.

Astronomy Cast

If you want to learn about astronomy, Astronomy Cast is a great podcast to listen to. It's a podcast that introduces the general public to diverse topics in astronomy. It not only explains what we know about astronomy, but how we know about things in astronomy (paraphrasing their slogan).

When it first started, I thought I would not learn anything new since most of the topics were those that I had read or heard about before, but I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out that the podcast goes deeper into things without making things difficult.

The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe

The Skeptic's Guide to the Universe is one of my favorite podcasts. It discusses what's wrong with the woo woo stuff out there in a common sense manner, has great humor, and is very informative overall. Listening to it is a great way to fortify yourself from being duped by con artists or self-delusions such as the paranormal or alternative medicine.

Of course, the reason I don't believe in woo woo stuff is not just because they're woo woo, but because there's no evidence for them. If anyone could show rigorously that things like telepathy exists then I'd believe them, but areas such as the paranormal or alternative medicine are so full of con artists or arguments from assertion that it's hard to take any of them seriously.
